WHISTLE-BLOWING



It is defined as the act of raising your voice against any illegal or unethical activities in an organization.
Whistleblowing is a practice of informing authorities or public about illegal things performed in your organization to put an end. You will become a Whistleblower if you report any type of wrongdoings. Whistleblowing is done to safeguard the interest of the public and society.
Types of whistleblowing:
There are two types of whistleblowing
Internal: Reporting a problem within the organization, telling your authorities such as to your immediate supervisor
External: Informing about misconduct to any third person outside the organization such as a lawyer, or reporting it in court.
Complaints that cannot be whistle blew:
Personal problems and hatred, for example, Bullying and harassment by colleagues, problems regarding your pay, shifts pattern are not considered under whistleblowing law unless the case is in the public interest.
Complaints that can be whistle blew:
You can blow your whistle for only those activities that are against the public interest. The misconduct can be in the form of fraud or corruption, violation of rules and policies of the organization, embezzlement of funds, injustice, etc. Basically, there are four types of wrongdoings that a worker can report.
1.      Health and safety: Anything that may cause any harm and are dangerous for the life of workers
2.      Biohazard: Anything that is hazardous and risky for the environment
3.      Crime: Fraud of money
4.      Breaking the law: When your organization is breaking the law or when someone is covering up wrongdoings when you are forced to do any illegal activity.

When should whistleblowing be attempted
According to the article, whistleblowing should be attempted if the following four conditions are met
·         There must be a clear need for it, you don’t have to report every wrongdoing, just the important things.
